Science Fair by Jared Siew Chall – G.8G

Not every school brings a child the joy that he/she deserves, or gives an opportunity to express it in a way so that everyone can feel the same way. This is an example for one of those opportunities, in order to show how good you actually are, and pull the knowledge and confidence out of you.

During this Science Fair, us as the presenters interacted and communicated with other people, sharing their own products, their own inventions, a part of themselves put into a piece of material. Each of us worked hard in order to achieve the goal, which is to ensure that we have a successful Science Fair. Credit goes to the teachers, supervisors, and even parents, who gave us the help we needed to achieve that goal. This was the first ever Science Fair Fairview has held, and other kids with different ideas, will have their own opportunities to, in future.

Science Fair by Chien Huey – G.8G

It was just a normal Monday in the month of February when my Science teacher, Mr PJ, announced that the Grade 7s and Grade 8s would have to come up with a Science Fair project. He explained that it was meant to be a practice for us as a preparation for our future personal project.

I took quite some time to finally decide on mine: growing alum crystals. I was sure that most of us faced some difficulties and challenges throughout the whole project but it was indeed quite a flabbergasting sight on the big day. It was surprising that everything actually turned out very well and all of us were extremely busy. The MYP floor was divided into three different sections for the Science Fair: chemistry, biology and physics.

We displayed our products, logbooks, reports, and posters and in my case, I had a scrapbook. We set up our stations early in the morning and we were well-prepared by the time the Science Fair started. It was so exciting to see everyone’s work and that many had come up with interesting ideas. There were the long-lasting bubble, hand sanitizer, the six nutrients milkshake, tea with pandan leaf, the ecosystem, the paper roller coaster, rock candy, the fog maker and many more.

Sounded interesting, didn’t they? Students from different grades, teachers and parents visited our stations and it was comforting and encouraging to receive positive comments from them. After all it was the fruit of our hard work. In my case there were quite a number of failures throughout my project but I managed to overcome the challenges and solved the problems.

It was a great learning experience for all of us and I had acquired knowledge about proper planning and organising the experiments. This quote may be suitable as an advice to all, “The moment you’re ready to quit is usually the moment right before the miracle happens. Don’t give up.” To all the participants, be proud!
